Cady was the artist in residence at Mt Wilson in November 2021
This month I’ve had the honour of being the Artist in Residence at Mt Wilson in the Blue Mountains, where I’ve worked on my second book: Letters to Our Robot Son.
Beautiful doesn’t capture this place. Nestled on the peak of a dormant volcano, Mt Wilson is lush and gorgeous, a sub-tropical paradise which feels like ascending into Narnia. Baz Luhrmann shot The Great Gatsby here, and like Nick Carraway in that epic, Amanda and I have been staying in a cute cottage surrounded by gorgeous gardens and heritage homes, while I work from the nearby studio, a converted schoolhouse.
That I’m sharing so much in common with Old Sport has felt like a waking dream. The people I’ve met here are friends for life, and I am touched by their generosity and kindness.
You will undoubtedly see Mt Wilson in my upcoming work; this old volcano and its people have become a part of me now.
